The 5 Best Ways to Invest in Yourself

Guestpost by Samantha Hawrylack

We talk a lot about investing here, the stockmarkets, dividend stocks, Bitcoin, and so on. Now, one other way to invest and get a form of return is to invest in yourself. Investing in oneself does not necessarily mean that the return or “dividends” will come back to you in a monetary form. And I also want to add that while it may have a corny sound to it if you heard/seen this expression on a podcast or on social media, done right and with clear actionable tips this way of investing can absolutely improve your life!

And this is what my friend Samantha, our guest today, will detail for us today.

The 5 Best Ways to Invest in Yourself

In these uncertain economic times, it’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling like you have to sacrifice your life to make a living. But at the end of the day, you are your own most valuable asset. You can’t make money if you are out of commission, so you owe it to yourself to take care of your physical, mental, and emotional health. There are so many ways to invest in yourself so that you can have the time and energy to do what you love.

The most important investment you can make is in yourself. In doing so, you’ll improve your skills, boost your income, and give yourself the tools you need to pursue your life and financial goals. Whether you’re looking to start your own business, improve your job performance, or make it through a rough patch, there are plenty of ways to give back to yourself.

Do you hate your job? Do you feel like you are being taken advantage of by your employer? Are you tired of having to work so hard for a paycheck that just barely covers your cost of living? Whether you need to take care of your health, get your finances in order, or learn a new skill, there are numerous ways to invest in yourself. The key is to find a way that best suits your needs.

Always Keep Learning and Improving Your Skills

The world is changing, and so is the job market. With the constant need to stay ahead of the curve, it’s easy to feel like you’re fighting a losing battle. However, there is good news: you don’t have to be a genius to be successful. All you need is the willingness to learn new things and keep improving your skills.

You should always keep learning and improving your skills, especially those high income skills. This doesn’t have to cost you money, although some paid opportunities allow you to get certifications and boost your resume. Free learning opportunities are still an effective option for both your personal wellness and career. Consider going to local events, visiting new places, reading books and news, and taking free online courses that align with your interests.

We’ve all heard the cliche: “Life is about learning through failure.” Well, it’s not always easy, but it’s true. We learn through our experiences, both good and bad. If we never experience failures, then we never learn how to deal with them. So, in order to keep learning and improving your skills, you need to be willing to take on challenges that might not work out.

Invest in Your Future by Saving and Investing Money

You should be investing in your future by managing your money wisely. Saving for the future doesn’t have to be difficult. Setting aside a little bit of money every time you bring home a paycheck is an easy way to start saving, and earning interest on that money is an even better way.

We’re all familiar with the saying, “You have to spend money to make money.” But we often forget that we have to spend money to save money, too. Investing in yourself is a great way to save money in the long run. For example, if you invest in a gym membership, you might be able to improve your health and avoid future doctor visits and medical bills. Investing in quality and efficiency now will result in less spending later on.

Self-Care: Make Time for Exercise, Rest, and Hobbies

When people hear the term “self-care,” they often associate it with a spa day, a hot bath, or a mani-pedi. In reality, the concept of self-care is much broader and applies to all aspects of our lives. It’s not just about giving ourselves a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; it’s about taking the time to be intentional about taking care of ourselves—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

If you’re a self-improvement enthusiast, you already know that self-care is an important part of staying motivated and achieving your goals. But we all know it’s difficult to make time for self-care, especially when you have a bunch of other things to take care of. So, how do you make time for self-care? Here are a few tips:

  • Be specific about your self-care goals.
  • Set aside time for self-care in your schedule.
  • Start small to build the habit.

A number of studies have shown that treating yourself right not only feels good but is good for your mental and physical health. It’s important, however, not to go overboard with self-indulgence. Be mindful of this when you’re planning to take time for self-care.

Hire a Business or Life Coach

When you are ready to break through the plateau you feel you have hit in your business or personal growth, it’s time to hire a coach.

We all have that one goal or desire that seems just out of reach. Maybe you want to fit into your favorite pair of jeans, run a marathon, start a business, or get a promotion. The only thing that’s holding you back is a lack of time, money, or possibly both. And that’s where a business or life coach can help.

Business coaches are trained to help you grow your business, and life coaches help you reach your personal goals. With a coach, you get accountability, increased productivity, and a fresh perspective.

It’s a competitive job market out there, and you’ve spent years working hard to get to where you are. But, now you’re in a rut. You want to get ahead and have a plan to do so. The trouble is, you’ve started questioning how much of your fate you really have in your own hands. A coach can help you on your journey.

There’s no denying that hiring a business or life coach can be a great way to advance your career or improve your life. But it’s not just a quick fix—it’s an investment in yourself. A business coach can help you think outside the box and develop what you need to be more effective at work. And a life coach can help you identify your values and goals so you can create a life that is fulfilling, meaningful, and worth living.

Insure Your Auto, Home, and Life

In the classic movie, “The Wizard of Oz,” Dorothy’s ruby slippers were more than just shoes; they had the power to take her home. Similarly, a car is more than just a vehicle to get you from one place to another. It’s also an investment, and it’s one that you should protect by making sure it’s adequately insured.

If you have an auto insurance policy, you probably already know that it will cover you if your car is damaged in an accident. But do you know where that insurance coverage ends? Your auto insurance policy typically does not cover damage caused by “acts of God” or other events beyond your control.

Make sure to protect your car, home, life, personal properties, and even your digital real estate. You’ll be glad you did in the long run.

  1. I invest in myself but I have moved into a weird phase where I tend to spend more time investing in the future than right now. It helps having an accountability partner who reminds me that the future isn’t guaranteed and that I need to save some mental bandwidth for today.

  2. Hey Budget Life list, thanks for stopping by. Hmmm.. interesting, yes there is as well this balance between the present and the future one needs to take into account. Good you mention it and as well great you found an accountability partner that can help with that! All the best to you.
