#AwesomeBloggerAward – Joney Talks!

10 Questions to Joney Talks!

You may think that blogging is all about sitting behind a screen and writing one´s thoughts by yourself in the dark. While this is partially true (although I do not sit in the dark, it is bad for my eyes), blogging came with the unexpected benefit of being part of a community. As you write more and become more active on social media, you connect with other like-minded folks who also write about the same or different topics (and you even meet some in real life).

Bella Wanana, one of my newest friends nominated me for the #AwesomeBloggerAward! Even if I have no clue what that award thingie entails, I highly appreciate the gesture and certainly recommend you go check out her blog as well. She goes more in details on money-saving tips and tricks than I do and still likes some form of luxury as well. On that note, I recently enjoyed reading this post: Small Luxuries To Have In Your Budget.

That Awesome Blogger Award seems to consist of answering 10 questions about yourself and passing it on to fellow bloggers, not necessarily a big fan of those chains but when it is for the community I am more than happy to follow it!

5 questions about personal finance/blogging:

Why did you start blogging?

As I mention on my About page and in my article on Why I write about Personal Finance, I have always had an interest in all topics surrounding money (tips, tricks, and mindset).  In addition, I have been able to build relevant skills over the years through my career and various experiences and I felt I wanted to bring all of those to the world in the form of a Personal Finance blog (and since last year a Podcast as well).

What is one piece of advice you’d give to your audience?

I will say what I have mentioned in the Wildly Wealthy Life Podcast :

Identify what were your successes so far (in any field, personal/professional/your finances/etc) because this will give you the confidence to move out slowly and out of your comfort zone. It’s about building confidence and slowly building up your confidence. Let’s say you want to learn to dive and maybe you are not comfortable yet, maybe you can start with snorkeling. If you do that 2 or 3 times and you feel comfortable breathing through the mask and the snorkel, then maybe you’re ready to dive with the gas bottles and everything. It’s a small thing and it can be applied to any areas in life or in your career and job.

You can try to ask for a raise. Maybe you will ask the totally wrong way the first time, but then you will try to prepare your case better for the next negotiation. It’s all a learning process, but the important thing is if you identify a small success, “I achieved this.” Build up that confidence and if you develop this in further areas of your life, you will start to build a wildly wealthy life!

What is one blog post that you are most proud of?

Without hesitation, the one I wrote with the most passion was the one on investing in Legos, those plastic bricks really spark joy! What I also like about this one is that as a child I was creative with the bricks and today I can be creative with my writing and link whatever I want to personal finance, investing, etc. I am finding great joy in this process.

Who has influenced you the most on your personal finance journey?

Very good question but a hard one, here I would say that it is a mix of influences and observations: Your parents, your friends, and family, the culture in which you grow up are obvious ones and they all influence you in a way or another. You can like how one deals with money, while you can be repelled by poor attitudes towards money (being too cheap or seeing money as evil). My parents have always taught me to keep a balanced approach towards money and to view it as a tool and not as an end. Money was not taboo at home so the good foundation came from there. The rest of the education came from various blogs/podcasts etc.

Who is your favorite personal finance blogger/Youtuber?

Again a difficult one! I follow a few personal finance podcasts, Youtube channels, and blogs. So I’ll mention a few ones, I personally enjoy:

The next set of questions are about me:

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

I am hesitating between breathing underwater for prolonged diving times and instant teleportation. Teleportation would be the ultimate luxury: No need to wait in line at the airports, (although there is fun in meeting people along the way), no more traffic jams or packed public transportation. This could also mean having breakfast at home, lunch at the seaside in Barcelona, and the evening dinner with a Podcast guest from Toronto after recording an episode for example :).

What is one thing you are most grateful for in your life?

I am grateful for being at peace with who I am and for where I am in life.

What is one good habit of yours that you are most proud of?

I congratulated one colleague of mine on a deal she negotiated and asked her how did you do it? She said, well I followed your example, I did not want to give up. One habit I am proud of is that I like to deal with negotiations/disputes until the end. As long as I feel there is no clear outcome, I will not give up. This is not to say it always works but I like to know that I have done everything I could to get to the conclusion.

What is your favorite snack?

I do not snack too much in general but I always enjoy appetizers: Saucisson, assorted cured meats, cheese, olives, bread and hummus, sundried tomatoes, toasts with foie gras, etc.

This pretty much sums it up, wanna share?

If you could have lunch with one person, alive or dead, who would it be?

I did some thinking on this one and a person with whom I would enjoy conversing over lunch would be the author of one of my favorite books: Dale Carnegie! (How to Win Friends and Influence People)
